Cruelty Free International is the leading organisation working to end animal testing worldwide. For over 100 years, we have championed progressive, humane scientific research and cruelty free living. Our dedicated team are experts in their fields, combining award-winning campaigning, political lobbying, pioneering undercover investigations, scientific and legal expertise and corporate responsibility.  Educating, challenging and inspiring others across the globe to respect and protect animals, we investigate and expose the reality of life for animals in laboratories, challenge decision-makers to make a positive difference for animals, and champion better science and cruelty free living.

Cruelty Free International and the Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda envisages a development model “in which humanity lives in harmony with nature and other living species are protected.” Cruelty Free International believes that improvements to animal protection, by reducing and replacing animal testing for example, benefit the development of society and science. Our work at the UN highlights the non-animal technologies and alternatives that are currently available for testing the safety of products and raw materials.

Cruelty Free International believes that everyone has a key role to play in the transition towards sustainable consumption and production patterns, SDG 12. For everyone to fulfil this role, consumers must be engaged and informed on the opportunities available to make sustainable daily consumption and purchasing choices.

Cruelty Free International is a member of the UN Environment’s Consumer Information Programme, within the 10YFP. Our Leaping Bunny certification scheme, a worldwide initiative to certify brands which do not test on animals, was a member of a small group that took part in road-testing the 10YFP’s guidelines for providing product sustainability information. Consumers want to be responsible, and they want the companies they buy from to be responsible producers. To be able to do this effectively, we help provide accessible information to enable consumers to make informed choices on sustainable lifestyles.

Cruelty Free International helps empower individuals to be informed and therefore be able to make demands of businesses and governments to increase their sustainability. For example, our campaign calls on UN leadership to harmonize global testing procedures for cosmetics would not only ensure a level playing field for consumers, manufacturers and governments alike, but would send a strong signal of willingness to achieve SDG 12, increasing the sustainability of global consumption and production patterns.
