English Learning and Sustainability Alliance The English Learning and Sustainability Alliance (ELSA) brings together representatives of England’s key stakeholder groups with interests in learning and sustainability in order to inform national debates and influence policy and practice. We are a diverse group we are united by a common vision which is: "A focus on sustainability within the experience of education everywhere, and learning recognised as integral to the idea and practice of sustainable development." ELSA and the Sustainable Development Goals ELSA's work on the SDGs includes: To communicate student interest and commitment to having sustainability as an integral focus of their learning. To identify exemplary educational practice across sectors, sharing this, and enabling further innovation. To promote an overarching UK strategy for sustainable development that has learning central to it. To commission research which illustrates how student learning around sustainability can most appropriately be developed from primary to tertiary education. To react to strategic opportunities during the year that enable us to further our purpose and vision. Our recent activities include: In light of the election on the 8th of June, ELSA wrote to all major political parties to raise awareness of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. ELSA responded to the Environment Audit Committee consultation on their review of sustainable development across Government departments in August 2015. The response cannot be made publicly available at this time. We look forward to supporting and contributing to the work of the EAC in future. Tertiary Education Sustainability Networks Make Progress Toward Creating a Global Alliance - The world’s most prominent networks for sustainability in further and higher education convened 25 March 2015 at the UK-based Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC) annual conference, this year organised at University of Leeds. The tertiary education networks in a… ELSA responded to the Ofsted consultation - Better inspection for all. The response was submitted on 5th December 2014. NB: The South West Learning for Sustainability Coalition did not participate in this response. ELSA responded to Higher Education Funding Council for England’s consultation on their new Business Plan for 2015 to 2020. This was sent to HEFCE on 2 December 2014.
