Why we're working on the food system

UKSSD's flagship report, Measuring up, shows that one of the most complex challenges we face in the UK is the impact of the food we eat on our health and environment.

By working together on the food system through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we have a focus for our collective efforts.

Join our programme

As a partner in the food system programme you can participate in two strands of activity, as well as all of the benefits of being a partner of UKSSD

Connect to a thriving and influential network - learn, grow and develop skills to apply the SDGs to your organisations in the context of the food system.

  • Quarterly meetings to explore the food system and challenge our thinking such as visits, seminars and workshop style discussions themed around key subjects.
  • Peer mentoring and opportunities to connect with new organisations.

Work together to create a roadmap for food to switch on the SDGs in the UK - building a roadmap that captures our shared vision for the food system in the UK and how we can reach the ambition of the SDGs.

  • Collaborate to explore, create content and the final output through in-person and virtual discussions.
  • Meet with and engage policymakers using the roadmap to influence the UK Government.

Designing a roadmap for the UK food system

We'll bring leading organisations together to understand the impact the food system has on the SDGs and identify achievable goals that organisations across the value chain can work towards. This will give us a basis for future collaboration, identifying opportunities and exploring gaps in our current understanding.

The roadmap will be developed during a series of events that start in January 2020. To take part and find out more about joining UKSSD's Food System programme please get in touch
