IACD (International Association for Community Development) is the only global network for professional community development practitioners. We are accredited with the UN and have members across the world. Our HQ is in the UK.

If you are a development agency manager, funder, fieldwork practitioner, academic, student, or volunteer community activist IACD can help you through our international conferences, practice exchanges, events and publications. IACD, together with regional and national community development associations and organisations, provides an infrastructure for much needed global networking and collaboration.

“Community development is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes participative democracy, sustainable development, rights, economic opportunity, equality and social justice, through the organisation, education and empowerment of people within their communities, whether these be of locality, identity or interest, in urban and rural settings.”

IACD and the Sustainable Development Goals

Since 2014 our strategic work plan priority is to support our members and community developers around the world to apply their resources and expertise to the SDG challenges. Since then we have run a series of global regional events on community development and the SDGs; we have set up a Global Community Development Exchange repository of teaching and learning resources for practitioners worldwide; organised Practitioner Exchange programmes whereby small (c20) groups of community developers from around the world spend a fortnight in a country looking at field projects addressing the SDGs. The most recent one was in India. Details about all of these programmes and resources can be found on our website.
