Derby County FC
The Rams aim to survive in the Championship by the end of this season and dreams of promotion to the Premier League look bleak for them as they have not achieved that height since 2008.
The Derby-based club put up a fight against Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the Championship as they lost 4-2. Rovers’ Tyrhys Dolan opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Curtis Nelson’s equaliser in the 67th minute.
However, Andreas Weimann, Sammie Szmodics and Yuki Ohashi scored consecutive goals to render Derby County helpless.
The Rams have a concerning defensive record as they have conceded first in their last five games. They have a chance to turn things around this weekend but in the long run to survive in the Championship, they have to make Pride Park a fortress.
Middlesbrough FC
Middlesbrough missed out on the promotion play-off places last season after finishing eight in the Championship table after struggling with an injury-ridden squad.
Manager Michael Carrick hopes to build on the finish from last season to go for promotion to the Premier League in this one through a series of commanding performances.
The Boro started their league campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Swansea City, thanks to a penalty strike from Emmanuel Latte Lathe. It was a resounding outing from the hosts as they recorded 19 shots which Swansea would feel lucky to come away without an embarrassment.
Middlesbrough averaged 1.5 goals per game last season and they hope to continue their ravaging goalscoring form in this one too.
Team News
Derby County are set to miss Jerry Yates for this match as he picked up a straight red card in the final match of the season with Swansea against Millwall.
Middlesbrough will be without the likes of Alex Bangura, Darragh Lenihan and Tommy Smith.
