Premier League football returns to St Mary’s after a year away, as Southampton prepare to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
In their season opener against Newcastle, Southampton found themselves with a numerical advantage after just 28 minutes, following Fabian Schar’s red card for a “headbutt” incident involving Ben Brereton Diaz.
Despite this advantage, the Saints were unable to capitalize, ultimately losing 1-0 despite dominating possession and producing nineteen shots on goal.
Manager Russell Martin expressed pride in his team’s performance but will be focused on improving their finishing ahead of this weekend’s match.

Match Guide
Nottingham Forest kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home against Bournemouth.
The match was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Danilo just 15 minutes in. After a lengthy stoppage, Chris Wood scored a close-range goal to open his account for the season, but Forest couldn’t secure the win as Semenyo equalized late on.
Forest struggled on the road last season, winning only four away games, though two of those victories came in their final two away matches.
They’ll be looking to build on that momentum and see this fixture against a newly-promoted side as a good opportunity to start doing so.
