Novak Djokovic made it through the initial rounds of the tournament by defeating Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Roberto Carballes Baena, both in straight sets. Although he won convincingly, Djokovic encountered notable resistance.

Against Herbert, Djokovic faced challenges particularly in the second set due to Herbert’s robust kick serve, pushing Djokovic to his limits. However, Djokovic managed an early lead in the tiebreaker, ultimately claiming the match 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-4.

His matchup with Carballes Baena proved less strenuous, as Djokovic smoothly overcame the unseeded Spaniard with scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, progressing to the next round at Roland-Garros.

Lorenzo Musetti has also advanced through the initial rounds without dropping a set, defeating Daniel Galan and the crowd favorite, Gael Monfils. Musetti showcased his prowess against Galan, winning 6-3, 6-3, 7-5.

He then triumphed over Monfils on the prestigious Court Philippe-Chatrier, delivering a 7-5, 6-1, 6-4 defeat to the veteran in his 17th appearance at the French capital.

Djokovic and Musetti have faced off five times previously on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic leading their encounters 4-1. Their most recent meeting was at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters, where Djokovic prevailed 7-5, 6-3.

Heading into their third-round clash at the 2024 French Open, Djokovic is favored to win, despite his less-than-optimal form throughout the year and lacking a title so far.
