Solar Trade Association helps to create and expand UK markets in solar and storage. For 40 years we have promoted solar energy and worked to make its adoption easy and profitable for all users. As a not-for-profit we are funded by our membership which includes manufacturers, distributors, developers, asset owners, O&M providers, law firms, consultants, academics and innovators.

Solar’s exceptional synergies with storage, EVs and smart grids mean we work on the frontline of technology and system change. Our incisive research, policy-development and lobbying shapes government policy and regulation. In partnership with key players across the energy industry, the STA is working to secure the smart systems that solar and storage need to thrive.

Solar Trade Association and the Sustainable Development Goals

As an industry lobby group, The STA is primarily involved in SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. However, given the all-encompassing nature of the energy sector, our work extends across sustainability fields.

We work with various stakeholders to ensure that UK cities and communities (SDG 11) have access to clean power and heat from solar PV, solar thermal and storage systems and that those most vulnerable are not being excluded. Central and local government policies that support a low carbon economy will help us meet our national and international climate targets (SDG 13), improve air quality (SDG 3), and lead to thousands of good quality jobs and economic growth (SDG 8).
